A bit about Nagin et al
Nagin was re-elected in large part due to it coming down to a runoff and he was, by far actually (as hard as it is to believe) the better choice of the two. His opponent was Mary Landreaux's brother.
Nagin runs as a rather conservative sort. He isn't really, until you compare him to the leftist gits who usually run.
In actuality, Nagin is the Best Mayor New Orleans has saddled itself with in years.
Yeah, the rest were really that bad.

Blanco (Blank Stare) and Nagin really never got along. There has been a bit of contention between the N.O. mayor and the Gov forever, but these two were getting about it rather more in depth than seen in years. Firstly, Nagin backed Jindal for the election. Nagin is at heart a businessman who ran the cable company there, and brought in AAA Hockey, fighting for all the tax breaks and business friendly incentives he could get. He saw Jindal as a better proposition for the City's long term money hopes. Blanco held him in a great amount of animosity over that after she won (Narrowly). It being a forgone conclusion she would not get re-elected, she dropped out (Or the party asked her to bother seeking the nomination) allowing the possibility a Dem would get the mansion back.
Jindal has done wonders, but the hellhole is so deep he has a long way to go.

Folks like McKinney, Wright, et al need "Racism" to justify their existences. If they can't find any, they will gladly conjure it from the ether to foment it, in order to ride the furor into power. They really have no want for folks to "Be Judged by the content of their character" because it puts them out of excuses.
